"If it doesn't taste good going into the barrel - it won't taste good coming out."
We are absolutely chuffed to win Silver in the 2024 Rum and Cachaca Dark Rum no age statement Solera Category at the Global Spirits Master Awards.
The Global Spirits Masters is the only blind-tasting competition that exclusively uses independent judges free of any ties to existing brands.
Products are assessed blind in numbered copita tasting glasses which are poured at distance from the judging panels.
Each entry is marked on appearance, aroma, palate and overall balance.
Here's what the judges said: Lovely bright amber Almost-spiced nose, with cinnamon and nutmeg; woody. Chocolate on the nose, wood spice, cane sugar coming through nicely. Heaps of cinnamon, nutmeg and chocolate fudge on the nose. Very clove forward on the palate.
We were the sole Medalist in this category. A look at the Silver Medalists in the other Dark Rum categories finds us in the fine company of well established international brands like Angostera for their aged over 13 years Angostura 1787.
Below are the placings in the Dark Rums aged up to 7 years:
Vok Beverages | Beenleigh Artisan Distillers Double Cask Rum | Gold Proximo Spirits | Kraken 94 Proof Black Spiced Rum | Gold El Supremo Rum | El Supremo Rum 5 Years Old | Gold LVMH | Eminente Reserva | Gold La Martiniquaise-Bardinet | Old Nick Dark | Silver
Did the judges know that we are a year and a half in business and thus our rum is young?
No.
This just shows yet again that "if it doesn't taste good going into the barrel - it won't taste good coming out."
